Aidan Sheehan: Arlington Soccer All Star
Sailor and soccer star Aidan Sheehan has been recognized as a Student Athlete of the Year in the Boston Globe’s 2022-23 Boys’ Soccer All-Scholastics.
Aidan, a senior at Arlington (Mass.) High School, led the Spy Ponders in scoring during fall 2022, with 13 goals and four assists. The Globe noted that Aidan played a key role in an undefeated regular season for Arlington Boys Varsity Soccer, posting 24 career goals and seven assists.
The recognition follows his being named a Boys’ Soccer All-Star and MVP for the Middlesex League’s Liberty Division as well as an All-New England selection for the region.
“It feels amazing to get recognized for having such a good season, and it was a really nice way to end off playing soccer for Arlington,” the midfielder said of the All-Scholastics recognition.
The Arlington High School website noted it was another great year for Arlington Boys Varsity Soccer, with the team capturing the Middlesex Liberty League Championship for a third straight year.
“Aidan has excelled at sailing and playing soccer since he was old enough to kick, swim and run,” said his favorite aunt, Sheehan World publisher Kathy Sheehan. “He’s a super star!”
When he’s not helping his teammates score goals on the soccer pitch, Aidan roots for Chelsea FC. His favorite player is Neymar, the Brazilian native who plays for Paris Saint-Germain. Coincidentally — or not — Neymar also sports the number 10 on his uniform.
Aidan hopes to continue playing soccer in college but hasn’t settled on which college he’ll attend after graduating this spring.
He will probably be sailing this summer on Cape Cod, though. Aidan’s whole family sails and he is the grandson of the late Capt. Jeff Komenda of the Hyannis Yacht Club. Aidan is also a great-grandson of the late Capt. Abel Renault of Somerville, Mass., and a great-great-grandson of the late Capt. Alfred "Ferdinand" Renault of Nova Scotia, Canada. Both Captain Renaults were merchant mariners.
