November 8, 2016: A Day
That Will Live in Infamy

The Sheehan World is in mourning for our democracy after an orange misogynist, racist, bully, and bag of birther excrement was declared the winner of the 2016 US election for president despite the fact that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.

The utterly shocking election of #NotMyPresident Trump was celebrated by the alt-right, a white nationalist movement in the US, along with neo-Nazis and gynoticians in the Republican Party who are trying to "return" America to its white, isolationist, patriarchal roots.

The new president, who spent eight years trying to convince Americans that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and was a secret Muslim, is a serial liar and con man who campaigned on promises to deport millions of undocumented foreigners living in the US while building a wall between the US and Mexico, which Mexico will pay for.

Trump's campaign promises include requiring all Muslims to register their religious affiliation with the government; "defunding" Planned Parenthood by restricting millions of women's access to critical health care services like cancer screenings, contraception, and safe, legal abortion; and imprisoning his opponent. His campaign of hate also pledged to repeal Obamacare and reduce taxes, and he sought to turn the public against the news media by -- among other things -- trading in fake news.

Within days of the Nov. 8, 2016 election, Trump named Steve "Turn on the Hate" Bannon to a White House position of chief strategist and nominated Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama to be the US Attorney General. Both Sessions and Bannon have reputations for being racist, or at least insensitive, to minorities and immigrants. The Senate Judiciary Committee in 1986 refused to confirm Sessions for a federal judgeship after one witness testified that Sessions once said he thought the KKK was "OK until I found out they smoked pot."

And on Nov. 18, Trump agreed to pay $25 million to settle a series of lawsuits alleging he swindled former students of the now defunct Trump "University." Because the non-profit Trump foundation had used foundation funds to settle lawsuits arising from Trump's personal and business activities, the state attorney general for NY demanded -- and received -- a written letter from representatives of Trump promising that no foundation money would be used for the Trump "University" settlement.

The newspaper, which endorsed Hillary Clinton, noted that Trump has absolutely no experience in public office and his business acumen leaves a lot to be desired. His three casino businesses in Atlantic City went bankrupt as did his Plaza Hotel in New York City; yet he has bragged about being "smart" enough to avoid paying personal income taxes for about 20 years.

But it is Trump's misogyny that has Sheehan World publisher Kathy Sheehan needing anti-depressants and sedatives.

"We will not go back!" Sheehan said. "Never. No."

The Sheehan World joins a number of civil- women's- and human-rights groups calling on #NotMyPresident to publicly condemn extremists who are espousing racism, xenophobia, and misogyny in his name.

The Sheehan World is the world's leading online newspaper for Kathy Sheehan's world and has been in virtually continuous circulation since 1995.
